E-news August 2018

61st kiwi now resident on Motutapu.

The latest of 61 kiwi is free on Motutapu - a one month old Coromandel Brown kiwi.

Being predator free, Motutapu is a safe haven for chicks. Some are then returned to mainland refuges once they grow to 1000 grams which is when they are generally safe from predation from stoats and cats.

The new season of releases will start again in late spring. Until then happy breeding, 'Kiwis'.
