E-news March 2023

WELCOME TO 2023

2023 is well underway and we have certainly had some challenges, primarily due to the weather. The rain and cyclone in January and February disrupted work on the island with cancelled ferry services and bad weather on a number of days.

There has been damage to some of the roads which is constraining access to some weeding areas. The Centennial Track through the lovely well-established forest has slip damage and DOC have closed it. We are waiting their damage assessment to formulate a rebuild plan.

Despite the weather, our fantastic volunteers continue to do great work in the nursery, preparing for the upcoming planting season and in the forest, dealing to the weeds - especially the dreaded moth plant pods which are prevalent at this time of the year. It is encouraging to see a steady stream of new volunteers coming through and we are looking to increase the number of weekday excursions and to build our leadership team.
